Our heritage breed turkeys include Broad Breasted Bronze, Bourbon Red and Royal Palm birds. Like our chickens, they benefit greatly from grazing on grass, legumes and insects. We protect the birds from predators with electric netting fences and move them through the pasture throughout the summer. We start the birds in a brooder house in May and have them on pasture by the end of June. They should be finished just in time for Thanksgiving. Like our chickens, these turkeys are seasonal and can only be produced during the growing season of the grass.

O God, enlarge within us the sense of fellowship with all living things, even our brothers and sisters the animals, to whom you have given the earth as their home in common with us. We remember the shame that in the past we have exercised our high dominion with ruthless cruelty so that the voice of earth, which should have gone up to you in song, has been a groan of pain. May we realize that they live, not for us alone, but for themselves and for you, and that they love the sweetness of life.— St Basil the great
